How I stay healthy during the winter

I know it’s almost spring, but it still feels like winter. I think it will take a while before the weather is going to be nice here. Staying healthy during the winter is really important, I don’t know but I always feel so much healthier during spring and summer. I have loads more energy, I am outside, eat more veggies and fruits, I get vitamin D. Is it just me, or is it just a lot easier to be healthy during the warmer seasons?  I’ve started to work out a couple months ago and it has been the best decision I made this year. Now that I feel like I am really accomplishing work out goals, It’s so much easier to pick the healthier foods instead of junk food.

I’ve noticed for a while that healthy nutritious meals satisfy me way more than a unhealthy junky burger. Even though a burger might taste so much better than a rice bowl with veggies, it always makes me gross (and sometimes bloated) after. I made the decision to do 80% healthy and 15-20% ‘unhealthy’. That means I eat healthy during the week and in the weekend I can have something I’ve been craving like a vegan chocolate cupcake or vegan chicken nuggets. I think balance is key when it comes to a healthy lifestyle and this way I don’t feel like I am restricting myself :-).

If you live in The Netherlands you might have heard about Onefit. Onefit is an app where you can plan your work-outs and try a new work-out everyday for a fixed price. I love this app so much because I never really worked out and now I can really experiment with different locations and work-outs. I’ve tried spinning, (hot)pilates, yoga and I am trying sprint next week. I finally feel energised and actually ENJOY working out (I never thought I would).

Sleep is also really important to me, during the winter I feel like I need eight hours of sleep but during the spring and summer I need less than 8. The sun usually wakes me up and I feel so refreshed and ready to go. Love that feeling.
